You Wouldn't Believe Me // 2006?

| The Riots, 2005: Dave Hytinen, me, Paul Bancel, Casey |
2002-2005 was the era of The Riots, easily the longest and most active music project I have ever been a part of. When it began, I had just discovered The Kinks, Troggs, Them, Eric Burdon and the Animals, the Who and eventually, the Nuggets Boxset which gave me hours of music that influenced my musical output then and now.
When we finally disbanded in 2005, I kept recording demos and writing songs that drew from and emulated my favorite sixties music. You Wouldn't Believe Me conjures up the Hollies, the Who, and the backward guitars and bass outro definitely ripped off My White Bicycle by Tomorrow. When I listen to The Riots recordings, I feel like I never quite hit the mark I was shooting for. I'm not sure I understood the sound yet and was influenced by other music that was happening around Detroit at the time like the Sights, the Henchmen, and the Greenhornes to name a few. You Wouldn't Believe Me and other post Riots demos definitely hit closer to that sixties mark. Sometimes you just have to stop trying.
You Wouldn't Believe Me
I saw you standing out in the rain with that boy
I suggest you contemplate the pain with that boy
but you wouldn't believe me
you wouldn't believe me when I said
but you wouldn't believe me when I said it would be over
I've heard stories about your evil aways around town
Youll be sorry when I'm gone someday, you'll be down
but you wouldn't believe me
you wouldn't believe me when I said
but you wouldn't believe me when I said it would be over
There'll come a time when your sun turns black as night
but if try a little harder to make up your mind you'll be fine.
but you wouldn't believe me...
