Electric Eyes // February 2011
A couple of weeks ago, I was pleased to learn I did not sell my old Canon Auto Zoom 814 super 8 movie camera before moving to Portland like I thought I had. I damn near sold everything Marie Kondo style before that was a thing. Occasionally I am surprised by a few things that escaped my purging mission and this camera is definitely one of them. Anywho, I was flipping through the instruction manual and came across a reference to an "electric eye" which refers to the ability of the camera to monitor/detect light. It was the catalyst for this special Electric Shark track recording in February of 2011 in the basement of the Ypsilanti house.
Electric Shark was what I called a collection of new wave inspired tracks I started recording in 2007 while working at Dawn Farm's detox. Fun, goofy, danceable tracks utilizing the cheesiest sounding drum machine and synth patches I could find like the Moog "trumpet" driving this track. The lyrics of Electric Shark songs are usually pretty non-sensical and mention dancing a lot, a subject I know very little about. The above unflattering but suitable picture was a selfie taken in the bathroom of the Ypsilanti house (not stolen from a sex-offender registry). Enjoy.
